For all those habitual coffee drinkers out there this will be good news to you and maybe you may even say – I told you so!

Coffee as you may already know is readily available in mist stores around the world and now a study claims that drinking this beverage can help to reduce the effects of liver damage caused by alcohol drinking.

Researchers from the Southampton University in the United Kingdom had conducted a study involving more than 430,000 people.

It was discovered that when two extra cups of coffee were consumed daily it reduced the risk of subjects developing liver cirrhosis by as much as 44%.

Liver cirrhosis is a liver disease caused by excessive alcohol abuse and it is estimated that more than one million people worldwide die from this disease annually.

What the disease does it that it prevents the liver from properly filtering harmful toxins from the blood. Normal tissues thicken when a person has cirrhosis and alcohol is the principal causative factor for cirrhosis in adults although it is also a well known fact that hepatitis, fatty liver disease (caused by obesity and diabetes) as well as immune disorders can also cause cirrhosis.

While coffee on its own has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reverse the damage to the liver, sufferers will also have to alter their lifestyle choices as well.

The Connection Between Coffee And Liver Health As Seen From The Study

About 2,000 subjects that had cirrhosis were part of a study by a team of scientists to know the effects of coffee on their liver health.

The subjects were divided into two groups and the research was carried out.

Results Obtained From The Research

  • A single cup of coffee daily reduced the risk of cirrhosis by up to 22%.
  • The risk of cirrhosis reduced by as much as 43% with two cups of coffee consumed daily.
  • With three cups of coffee consumed daily the risk of cirrhosis dropped to 57%.
  • Daily consumption of four cups of coffee decreased the risk of cirrhosis by 65%.

    This to me makes no sense because liver damage caused from alcohol is irreversible.

    It is reversible as long as you don’t have sclerosis of liver!
