While when you have thyroid problems most practitioners will usually say that you need iodine, sometimes that is not the case. Knowing which herbs can boost thyroid function may help you in the long run.
Over two hundred million people globally suffer from at least one form of thyroid disease. Thyroid disease comes in many forms. Problems are increasing so dramatically that it has been called an epidemic by some. Here are 8 herbs that can help to boost thyroid function.
1. Schisandra
Schisandra, being a berry used mainly for medical use. It is filled with powerful antioxidants that can protect you from free radicals and other toxins that cause cellular damage. Schisandra produces lots of detoxifying enzymes which allows it to have a great effect on the central nervous system, immune system, and respiratory system.
2. Rhodiola
Rhodiola being an adaptogen can increase the resistance to lots of chemical, biological and physical stressors. It helps to burn fat and enhance energy. Using Rhodiola can fix problems like fatigue, headaches, exhaustion, and boost one’s energy dramatically.
3. Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is a plant that grows most commonly in India and North America. Using the roots of this plant can be effective in reducing inflammation, reducing stress, and ever relieving arthritis better than most medicines out there now. This herb has also been known widely as a great way to boost immune system function.
4. Rehmannia
Rehmannia is a lovely plant with rather large flowers that have been grown as ornamental plants in Europe and North America. This plant contains Vitamins A, B, C, and D as well as compounds such as catalpol and iridoid glycoside that are effective in reducing pro-inflammatory factors in the body. Rehmannia is used in Asia for treating thyroid imbalances and even menopause.
5. Licorice
Licorice has been used to support a healthy digestion system, lung function, respiratory function and even promote a more healthy response to stress. This plant contains lots of flavonoids and flavones such as liquiritin and quite a few chalcones and isoflavones. People who suffer from hypothyroidism have found that small doses of licorice can be dramatically beneficial to their health. You see people with hypothyroidism don’t produce high enough levels of cortisol and licorice stimulates the production of such.
6. Bacopa
Bacopa being as potent as most thyroid-stimulating drugs to fight hypothyroidism.
Bacopa can be beneficial in reducing inflammation, promoting antioxidant processed in the body, enhancing memory, and aid in mental concentration, therefore alleviating some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism.7. Bladderwrack
Bladderwrack being a seaweed was at one time the source of iodine. Being discovered back in 1811 it was used to treat goitre that is swelling of the thyroid gland. Goitre is closely related to iodine deficiency. This plant contains beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, iodine, bromine, and potassium. Using this herb people have been able to wean off of synthetic thyroid hormones. When combines with Ashwagandha this herb can even stimulate the production of thyroid hormones in people with hypothyroid problems! While it has, it’s downfall it is also prone to having high levels of arsenic found in ocean water. Be aware of where you get it.
8. Black Walnut
Being a species of flowering tree it has been used as a potential cancer cure. You see this plant kills a parasite that is responsible for causing some cancers. Many cultures use the hulls from the black walnut to improve their intestinal function.
Black walnut is also a great source of iodine. Iodine is imperative in the proper function of the thyroid glands.Read full article: Organic Health

The only way to regulate thyroid function is with medication. All of these ‘ads’ are BS. Talk to an endocrinologist and get educated.

Meds are not always the answer. The endocrinologists only treat symptoms not the root of the problem. I see an endocrinologist regularly.

I have hashimotos and some of these herbs can cause more harm than good, although I see an endocrinologist on a regular basis also, there are still areas that aren’t being addressed, for one hashimotos was named after a man who back in the 1920’s was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder, it has never been revised since then and especially never revised for a woman’s body, which by the way all Doctors know we have more hormones and function differently so I would like to know that if these herbs were tested for a woman or man? 🙁

I need to start using more of these herbs thanks <3 :)This is just another reason why I love natural home remedies so much <3 Instead of spending tons of my hard earned money on toxic medications and doctor bills I would much rather use more alternative medicine.I would highly suggest that everybody start using natural remedies, you will never go back. If you want to learn more about natural remedies I would suggest reading this story.
