You sure enjoy a sushi serving once in a while. The Sashimi, spicy tuna roll, or salmon skin Yummy Yummy roll are probably some of your favorites. You may not want to hear this, but the love of this delicacy left a man’s entire body flooded with parasitic tape worms.
The Chinese man had gone to consult his doctor complaining about his severe stomach ache and itchy skin. The full body scan revealed the horrifying cause – an infection that had spread through his whole body.
All fish types contain a worm called Diphyllobothrium. This type of worm can cause a disease often found under the name Diphyllobothriasis and it usually occurs upon a consumption of raw or undercooked fish.
The first notable symptoms include abdominal discomfort or pain, Diarrhea, weakness, and WEIGHT LOSS. And, yes, the disease can be fatal if the worms succeed to reach the brain. Once the body becomes infected, tape worms start growing, and they can survive for several years.
What is even more terrifying, this type of worms can go undetected for several weeks or even months.
Many studies have shown that the consumption of raw or undercooked fish can often cause different parasitic infections, and some of the studies found that sometimes even cooked fish can cause a further reaction within the body.

Melanie, according to Snopes, these aren’t worms caused by sushi. Instead, they are calcified cysts left by worms from eating raw or undercooked pork. Still creepy!
