Learn the natural way to relieve hemorrhoids. Check out the article we found over at Healthy and Natural World.

First of all, we all have hemorrhoids. They are just venous cushions around the anus. It’s actually good news that we have them, as without them the stool might start leaking out of the anus. At least that’s what the theory says. The bad news is that almost half of the population develops unhealthy hemorrhoids at some point in their lives but the good news is that hemorrhoids can be treated and prevented using natural home remedies. Symptoms include swelling, itchiness, bleeding, irritation and pain. No, not a very comfortable situation. But make sure you diagnose hemorrhoids properly. They are harmless by themselves, but you wouldn’t want to mistake them for any other – more sinister – condition.

Hemorrhoids are swollen and inflamed veins in the wall of your anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoid swelling occurs when there is an increase in the pressure, causing the small veins to swell and fill with blood. That may result from straining during bowel movements or from the increased pressure on them during pregnancy. Hemorrhoids may be located inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids), or they may develop under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids).

So what can you do to relieve hemorrhoids? Well, there are few things you can do to improve the situation:

Think Fiber

The incidence of hemorrhoids is so high in the West mostly because of our lifestyle, so you can start by scrutinizing yours. Changing diet, exercising, drinking plenty of water and reducing stress, will not only help the hemorrhoids, but your general wellbeing as well. Fiber should be your mantra if you want to end constipation, one of the main reasons the problems start in the first place. Raw vegetables and fruits should do the trick, but you could always supplement that by adding organic flaxseeds or psyllium husk. You can start your day with a mix of water and a teaspoon of psyllium, which will give you that extra fiber dose.

Apple Cider Vinegar

There are various natural substances that can be applied to the painful area to sooth and heal it. Try using apple cider vinegar – the panacea of natural remedies. Simply soak a cotton ball and apply it to the anal area. This should help with inflammation and symptom relief.

Squat!

When travelling through Asia, I got very familiar with squat toilets. I became even fonder of them when I realized all the health benefits that come from squatting instead of sitting on the toilet. One of these includes hemorrhoid prevention, as you strain less. Did you know that in countries where people squat when going to the toilet, hemorrhoid problems are practically non-existent? As it might be a bit impractical making toilet adaptations – or even house relocations – you can still try squatting when you can, as it’s the most natural way to open up the bowels.

Try one or several of the above suggestions to relieve hemorrhoids and see what works best for you. Good luck!
