The Most Incredible Homemade Coconut Oil Sunscreen Recipe

Share

Did you know that coconut oil is a sunscreen? Seriously! If you’re headed out for a day of sun and want some UV protection all you need is to grab some coconut oil sunscreen from your kitchen! Coconut oil is the most nutrient dense part of the coconut. It is solid at room temperature like butter. It doesn’t break down in heat or light or become rancid like many oils, and in my opinion has a wonderful tropical smell. On the Next Page we have the best Homemade Coconut Oil Sunscreen Recipe

This is the same recipe I used last year with the carrot seed oil. It worked great but I didn’t like the smell. I am excited to see how the pomegranate one will work this summer 🙂

  11. Well just because you put a sunscreen on does not mean you should stay in hot sun for hours! If you can’t eat it .. Should not go on your skin!!! Actually most commercial ones help cause cancer!

    Make some with zinc oxide
Burnt to a crisp in The Keys. May work in places where the sun is not so hot, but NOT for the smoking Hot South!!

I worked on a study at a medical school rating the efficacy of different sun screens and SPF. First SPF is a scam, and the only sun screens that worked had zinc oxide or helioplex. Blue Lizard is my favorite.

I don’t understand. Actually I heard the opposite about coconut oil. After being in the sun for 45 mins today, in Michigan, with only C. Oil I got quite a bit of a sun tan. How does it block the sun? Obviously it didn’t for me????

Do you mind if I ask what you use? I agree coconut oil obviously is oily & takes a bit to absorb in the skin.

Sure @ jefri jones. I like derma E natural anti oxident sunscreen SPF 30. It also has no nsnoparticles which is great. Arbonne ABC is good too. Cliniderm SPF 45 I like for the face (this is Canadian brand), goddess garden sunny baby natural sunscreen. Remember when they’re zinc oxide based you can get some white residue. When you apply these types if sunblocks don’t rub them in too hard, just apply them gently. You don’t want to break down the minerals. The derma e goes on clear I noticed.

Since most sunscreens have SPFs to block UV radiation with 45 or greater being best. Coconut has an SPF of 4. So to imply its protecting you from the suns radiation and therefore protecting your skin from skin cancers is not appropriate or good advise. Sure its better than having nothing on your skin but it has very limited ability as a sunscreen.

Coconut oil only has an spf of 4. You need to add more to it if you’re going to be at the beach all day. Frankincense lavender helichrysym are good healing oils and carrot oil raises the spf a few points. So does the powdered stuff mentioned In previous post. Coconut oil also heals sun burn. Mix with lavender for added boost.
