Coconut oil is a true superfood of today’s world, having benefits both in the body for health purposes and on the skin as a vital part of a holistic beauty routine. The many uses for coconut oil make it a must have, both in the kitchen cupboard and in the bathroom closet.

One surprising use for coconut oil (always be sure to buy the organic virgin variety of coconut oil – even organic coconut oil can be found at reasonable prices at stores such as Trader Joe’s) is that it doubles as a fantastic and all-natural makeup remover. Follow the steps below for using coconut oil to remove all forms of makeup, including mascara.

Using Coconut Oil to Remove Makeup

Step 1:

Scoop a small amount of coconut oil out of your oil jar.

Step 2:

Rub the coconut oil between your hands to transform it from a solid into a liquid. If it’s above 76 degrees or so in your home, the coconut oil will convert into a liquid on its own.

Step 3:

Rub the coconut oil onto your face, taking special care to rub it onto your closed eyes to help soften up your mascara. Don’t rub too hard, and be sure to let the coconut oil sit on your face for a minute or two as it does the work of loosening the makeup (especially the eye makeup) and making it softer and therefore easier to wipe off.

Step 4:

Using a chemical-free makeup remover pad or a facial tissue, wipe the coconut oil (along with the makeup) off of your face.

Step 5:

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.
