Do you know the benefits cast iron cookware can give you? Humans have been using it since about the 4th Century B.C. So, why did we change it up to all this non-stick stuff? Once you read up on the cast iron pans, we’re pretty sure you might just go back to using them instead. On the next page are some reasons why you should buy and use cast iron cookware in your kitchen.

I have a cast iron skillet but got discouraged using it because everything was sticking. I use olive oil but that didn’t seem to help. Any suggestions?

If food is sticking either you have the temperature to hot or your pan is not seasoned properly. i would suggest seasoning your pan again.
seasoning instruction:
step 1: preheat oven to 300f
step 2: while oven is preheating scour pan
step 3: coat the pan in vegetable oil (i have not tried olive oil so not sure if it will work for this, but cooking with it is fine i do that myself)
step 4: heat the pan in the oven for 1 hour (a cookie sheet below it will help keep your oven clean)
step 5: remove pan from oven and drain the excess oil. (it is very hot drain the excess oil into a metal or glass container)
the best cleaning method is to as soon as the food is done cooking move it to a serving dish then immediately rinse and scrub the still hot pan using only water. to dry put it on the still hot burner (i like to leave the burner on until this step). this should solve your issue.

I love my cast iron too! My only complaint is the weight and the challenge of keeping them seasoned.

You aren’t supposed to use soap when you wash them. the best cleaning method is to as soon as the food is done cooking move it to a serving dish then immediately rinse and scrub with washcloth the still hot pan using only water. to dry put it on the still hot burner (i like to leave the burner on until this step). this should solve your issue.

I had a glass to stove for the last several years and use my cast iron to cook with everyday. I did break my last stove using my canner but that had nothing to do with cast iron pans.

Once you learn how to cook with a cat iron pan you won’t want to go back. The weight is part of what makes them so good to cook with.

The truck is to heat it slowly and making sure you have some sort of oil in the pan. Then don’t wash it with soap. I just scrub mine with a brush and hot water. After a while they become seasoned and sticking isn’t a problem.
I can make eggs for my whole family and ends with a clean pan that needs no scrubbing.
It just takes a bit too get used to it especially if you’ve always been using nonstick.

How do you re-season a cast iron pan? I have some but they are out in a garage. They are heavy to lift so I quit using them. I would like to clean them and let my grown children use them:).

Put them on the stove. Coat the inside with vegetable oil. Turn the heat on and let the pan soak the oil up as it gets hot. If its not enough oil try do it again. Everytime you clean them wipe the inside completely with oil before you put them up.

Thank you for this advice:) because told me to build a outside fire and put the pans in the hot coals and put hot coals inside the pan. This sounded weird! Thanks again for your help! I will try it this week:).
