Do you run for exercise to lose weight? There are reasons why you should walk to lose weight instead of running.

When you exercise, are you exercising to lose weight or to gain muscle? There are different ways you can work out to do both. When you want to lose weight you mostly need to do cardio. But, don’t run, just walk. Low-intensity cardio is a good way to lose weight, but not fat. There is a difference between weight loss and fat loss. When you run you burn calories from fat and from muscles.

Reasons why you should walk instead of run:

1. Cardio means intensity workouts. If you run you burn calories from fat and muscle. The body can’t distinguish the calories you would like to be burnt, so when you run you decrease muscle mass.
2. Doing too much cardio can increase the production of cortisol, a stress hormone. When this hormone is released it leads to food cravings because the body wants to overcompensate for the burned calories. So you will end up consuming more calories than you burned.

Walking is the healthier alternative here, because it leaves you with decreased amounts of cortisol, insulin sensitive, and the body produces serotonin and dopamine. All of these are a lot better than just burning more calories by running. Even though walking doesn’t provide the same kind of calorie burning as running, walking is the safer bet.
