Margaret Mary he literally has no enamel according to his dentist. He gets water at bed. We have a checkup tomorrow and hopefully no new cavities. Unfortunately he does still drink from a bottle though he’s 2 1/2 due to developmental delays so we are working on transitioning to a cup!

I definitely would leave out the sweetener. It’s not needed anyway.I just use coconut oil and baking soda myself, but I can see why some would enjoy the peppermint oil added also.

You’re right Karen. My teeth have gotten whiter also since I started using just coconut oil and baking soda. Some don’t realize that coconut oil is antimicrobial, which makes it perfect for toothpaste along with the bakingsoda.

Sweet f**k. Are you ready for this? *Clears throat* In reality, I don’t know enough about coconut oil to form an educated opinion on what it does to you if you use it externally. Using it as toothpaste could be beneficial if what this article is claiming is true and you are not ingesting it. I am VERY skeptical about this article however as there are no references I can find and one in-text link to a reference led to a webpage that didn’t exist (I’m not surprised for some reason). They are also using arguments and facts that are just simply not well researched. “Fluoride seems to be linked in as one of the main reasons for decaying teeth” is simply not true. Fluoride protects against tooth decay and according to the CPHA, every $1 invested in fluoridated water is equal to saving $38 dollars on dental care. Having said that, you need to ingest fluoride (albeit in very small amounts) to get this benefit so having fluoride in toothpaste isn’t necessarily beneficial either. Furthermore, there is no reference to where the information was gained that coconut oil slows tooth decay or is antibacterial. I’d love to see that article. Seriously. Thanks for the procrastination rant. This was great.

In unrelated news other than just a straight up reward for reading all that, I think you and Cam would really love this if you haven’t seen it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKYkxwKVU7E

I had done something similar and then it dawned on me, spitting it into the sink is not going to be good for the plumbing eventually, particularly when we’re in a drought in California and don’t use water consistently as we used to. Someone above mentioned don’t spit it into the sink. What do we do? spit it into a waste basket or something? thanks

Raw natural ‘tumeric’ powder mixed in with 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil… helps to brighten and whiten teeth. .. Tumeric stains yellow and will not wash out…if on clothing…. but will wash off skin
