Same ingredients is in the deodorant that I make. I change up the essential oils as I like. Out in a jar and dip in same way. If it gets a little hard I just add a little warms water on my fingers. It works great!

Is there any reason why you can’t just swallow it, rather than spitting it into the trash? I understand why it would clog pipes.

Also, I dislike the taste of mint. Could I use cinnamon, or might that be too abrasive?

I use straight up Coconut oil. Nothing else. There is really no need to add abrasive product like baking soda or salt because the toothbrush friction takes care of that. Make it easy on yourself and go straight up Coconut oil!

Karen Carpenter I can give you the ration that I use…..3 tbs of coconut oil, 2 tbs of baking soda, and 1 tbs of turmeric..you can add essential oils if you chose, but I don’t. The turmeric will stain you toothbrush, but I have several so I don’t mind………..;) Good luck….

It’s not just MY dentist that says that. Many other dentist agree. In my research for homemade toothpaste many recipes don’t recommend it for the same reason. I’m glad it works for you. Happy brushing!

ooppss! And don’t let the dentist convince you Charlotte should have it either. It does NOT help your teeth that much, reducing sweets is much more effective and healthy, and it damages the thyroid and pineal glands. There is also some speculation that it contributes to osteoperosis but I havenThere are so many without fluoride and whole foods

I’m a dental student and have learned a lot about toothpastes… At the end of the day, the mechanics of brushing and flossing are the main bacteria-fighters since they break up the biofilm. My patients have all sorts of different preferences on toothpaste as far as foam level, flavor, etc. so there’s no “magic solution” for everyone. BUT I can say that plain oils don’t have fluoride, which is the main ingredient for cavity prevention. And the only thing proven to whiten teeth is peroxide, which can be dangerous at non-regulated levels. I always check my toothpaste for an ADA seal of approval to make sure it’s safe and will perform as promised on the label. Hope that helps!

Nope Kellie Smith I wasn’t looking for approval (I would not use it for that anyway as my preference w toothpaste is to use an approved one) but you see this pop up regularly and I did not recall hearing from a dentist. Thanks Marni Fuller!

My son has a cavity but with a lot of terrible news on pediatric dentist here I’ve been scared to take him in. I started him brushing with coconut oil and noticed a great improvement. I thought I’d add some baking soda and cinnamon oil, but he didn’t like the baking soda, so I let him return to conventional toothpaste for about a month. Terrible choice! In just that short amount of time the cavity got much worse! Switched him right back to plain organic coconut oil.
